Amy Royal, LCSW-A, MA- GerontologyAmy was born and raised in New Jersey but has called the Carolinas home for the past 40+ years. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Clemson University. Later, desiring a mid-life career change, Amy returned to school to pursue master’s degrees in both gerontology and social work from UNC-Charlotte. Her passion for advocating and supporting older adults, family caregivers, and those navigating both the joys and the challenges that come with aging was born out personal experience caring for her aging parents while balancing her own life transitions and challenges. Professional experience includes knowledge, skills, and experience working with those facing end-of-life issues, navigating grief and loss, experiencing caregiver stress, depression or anxiety, adjusting to new situations or environments, coping with chronic illness, and more.
Amy brings an innate understanding of the stressors that can come with mid-life changes and transitions—from contemplating a career change to finding meaning and purpose; from helping a loved one deal with a new diagnosis to coping with chronic illness; from caring for a spouse or parent to navigating widowhood. She is compassionate, supportive, and encouraging and works to create a relaxed, safe, and confidential space for clients to share personal stories, concerns, doubts, and challenges. Incorporating a holistic mind-body philosophy, she utilizes skills from different modalities to include mindfulness-based approaches, person-centered, strength-based, solution-focused, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). |
